My Background and Path to Naturopathic Medicine
After working several years in mental health, I moved to Oregon where I completed a four year naturopathic medical degree. In addition to my naturopathic education, I volunteered at a hospice center and completed courses in Process Work and counseling. After moving back to the east coast I established a naturopathic practice and also worked as a patient advocate in Boston and New York City. My advocacy role helped me understand the need for patient support while navigating the healthcare system and the importance of communication between practitioners of different disciplines.I grew to truly understand the significance of both conventional and alternative medicine, and the benefits of a comprehensive and complementary medical model.
Working with Dr. Waters
Using a patient-centered approach, I work with my patients to search for the underlying cause of imbalance and create individualized wellness plans based on any findings. My suggestions are designed to help patients make positive life long changes, to prevent further imbalance, and to achieve optimal health. I draw from my education and experience in psychology, naturopathic medicine, patient advocacy and coaching in an effort to collaborate and support each patient in achieving their health goals.
Women’s Health, Wellness and Preventative Medicine
My practice focuses on women’s health and preventative medicine and wellness.
I understand that a woman’s health can be greatly impacted by hormonal changes and imbalances. My goal is to support women at every stage of their life and help devise a plan that feels comfortable for the patient. Plans may include further tests, guidance with supplements and botanical medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle coaching. Though I do not prescribe hormone therapy, I do support my patients when making the decision whether or not to use HRT. Many women may benefit from hormone therapy; however, it is not always the best treatment option for some women. Natural medicine can be very effective in reducing symptoms and providing support for a woman during any stage of her life.
Areas of Focus
Dr. Waters’ work often centers on women’s health and broader whole-body wellness, including areas related to hormone balance, thyroid health, energy resilience, nutrition, and lifestyle support.
Her perspective also aligns with the broader themes explored throughout the practice, including digestive health, chronic fatigue, and individualized wellness strategies.
Outside of the Office
When I am not working I enjoy going for a good run outdoors, cooking, traveling to new places around the world with my husband and two children, and hiking with my energetic dogs.
